U.S. Administration Urged to Make Switchover in Its Hostile Policy toward DPRK

Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- Ri Jong Hyok, head of the delegation of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly and director of the National Reunification Institute, spoke at the plenary meeting of the 136th Conference of the Inter-Parliamentary Union on April 4. The head of the delegation denounced the U.S. and other hostile forces for making desperate efforts to stifle the DPRK and trample down the dignity and happiness of the Korean people while persisting in the harsh economic sanctions and war drills. They instigated the UNSC to adopt "resolutions on sanctions" and press statements against the DPRK one after another while pulling up the DPRK over its measures for self defense as "threat" and "provocation" to the global peace and security and are working hard to totally strangulate the DPRK's economy, he said, adding: The Korean peninsula is exposed to the danger of war as legal and institutional mechanisms for preventing the war and armed conflict are completely destroyed and the DPRK is threatened by the UNSC's "resolutions on sanctions", little short of declaration of a war. The army and people of the DPRK are staging an all-out struggle for building a sci-tech power, economic power and highly-civilized nation despite all sorts of sanctions and war drills of the imperialists. Neither nuclear threat nor economic sanctions can ever hold in check the dynamic advance of the army and people of the DPRK who turned out to build an invincible socialist power on an unchangeable orbit of independence and Songun. The new U.S. administration should properly understand the strategic position of the DPRK that has ranked itself among the advanced nuclear powers, face up to the trend of the times and behave with prudence and self-restraint and make a bold decision to bring about a switchover in its policy after drawing a due lesson from the failed DPRK policy of the Obama administration. We take this opportunity to express thanks to various countries for extending support and solidarity to the Korean people in their struggle for peace and security on the Korean peninsula and the country's independent and peaceful reunification. We assure that the DPRK will as ever join hands with all countries friendly toward it and strive hard to build an independent new world where dignity and wellbeing of the peoples are ensured, he concluded. |
