She was born into a poor peasants' family in Toksong County, South Hamgyong Province before the liberation of Korea. It was not until President Kim Il Sung liberated the country that she could lead a worthwhile life as the mistress of the country and owner of her own land.

Even now she has kept working at kitchen garden.

Her favorite food is potato dishes and she leads an optimistic life.
