Attending the ceremony were Choe Thae Bok, vice-chairman of the C.C., Workers' Party of Korea, and officials concerned, public health workers and players and teachers and students of Pyongyang Medical College of Kim Il Sung University.

Kang Ha Guk, minister of Public Health, in his opening address, called upon all the participants to fully display the noble ideological and spiritual qualities and an unflagging fighting spirit and high sports technique in order to prove successful and thus make a contribution to increase the sports enthusiasm in the whole country.

At the end of the ceremony there took place a volleyball match between male players of the Kim Man Yu Hospital and the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital and a demonstration of players of Taekwon-Do team of the Korean Taekwon-Do Committee.

The sporting event will continue until May 2.
