Campaign against Drought Damage Brisk in DPRK
Pyongyang, May 11 (KCNA) -- A nationwide campaign is going on in the DPRK to prevent drought damage to the agricultural sector.

Commissions, ministries and national institutions, including the State Planning Commission and the Ministry of Electric Power Industry, are giving top priority to supplying fuel oil, electric power, farm machine accessories, etc. to the agricultural sector.

All the industrial establishments of the country mobilize facilities and equipment necessary for drawing water into crop fields.

Every province, city and county are taking due measures to repair or improve irrigation setups and have an effective use of all water resources.

Pumping and power equipments are in full operation to irrigate drought-stricken fields and foliage dressing by amino acid micronutrient compound fertilizer and growth promoter has been carried on together with water-saving farming methods applied.

It has rained very little in the area south of the central western coast and the eastern coastal area from late in April.

The temperature rose to over 30 degrees centigrade, the highest since the country's weather observation, and strong wind blew frequently in several areas of the country.

Enough rain to overcome drought is not expected in most areas of the country till around May 15, according to a weather forecast.
