The survey confirmed that over 38,700 snipes of 30-odd kinds and over 6,000 water-birds of 20-odd kinds make a stopover in the coastal areas of Onchon County in Nampho City and Cholsan, Tongrim, Sonchon and Kwaksan counties of North Phyongan Province.

During the survey, a practical training to ring six Numenius phaeopuses and one Charadrius veredus (Eastern Plover) and fly them took place in the area of Jungak Workers' District of Onchon County, Nampho City.

And surveyors observed over 10 migratory birds flew from Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and other countries, including Calidris Tenuirostris (Great Knot) and Calidris canutus (Red Knot), wear new rings.

What drew attention during the survey was that migratory birds in crisis like Limicola falcinellus (Broad-billed Sandpiper), Haematopus ostalegus, Platalea minor, Platalea leucorodia (Eurasian spoonbill), Larus saunderisi, etc. were found in the above-said areas of the DPRK.

The Nature Conservation Union of Korea and the Miranda Naturalists Trust of New Zealand have made annual survey of migratory birds in the west coastal areas of the DPRK since 2015 to confirm their flyway, number and longevity.

According to Ju Song I, a researcher of the C.C, Nature Conservation Union of Korea, the joint survey for the protection of migratory birds will continue till 2020.
