New Fungi for Raising Rate of Rooting Developed in DPRK
|
|
Pyongyang, May 16 (KCNA) -- A scientific research group of the Microbiological Research Institute of the State Academy of Sciences in the DPRK developed ectotrophic mycorrhiza fungi which help increase the rooting rate of trees. The group made a collection of microorganisms good for the growth of mycorrhiza and proved their effectiveness in a scientific way upon the analysis of mycotrophic microorganisms of needle-leaf trees or broadleaf trees. And it solved technical problems arising in culturing them. The newly-developed fungi make it possible to shorten the period of cultivating saplings and ensure the rooting rate of transplanted saplings at 80-95 percent. One kilogram of the fungi is enough for treating 5,000-10,000 two or four year-old saplings. The fungi promote the growth of saplings more than 1.5 times faster than before and strengthen their tolerance to blight and drought, while developing their adaptability to acid soils or low-fertility soils. The fungi are now highly appreciated among forestry experts. |
