Project for Building Tanchon Power Station Starts
Pyongyang, May 18 (KCNA) -- The Tanchon Power Station is to be built in the DPRK.

To build the power station, lifelong intention and behest of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il, is a grand nature-remaking project that requires the construction of hundreds of kms of waterway tunnel and main dykes and power stations for making effective use of water in several rivers.

A ground-breaking ceremony for the project took place on Thursday.

Present there were Pak Pong Ju, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the C.C., Workers' Party of Korea, vice-chairman of the DPRK State Affairs Commission and premier of the Cabinet, O Su Yong, vice-chairman of the C.C., WPK, Ro Tu Chol, vice-premier and chairman of the State Planning Commission, Kim Song Il, chairman of the South Hamgyong Provincial Committee of the WPK, Ri Sang Won, chairman of the Ryanggang Provincial Committee of the WPK, and officials of armed forces organs and concerned.

Addressing the ceremony, Park Pong Ju said that the project will show the stamina of Juche Korea more vigorously advancing despite the harsh sanctions and blockade of the U.S. imperialists and their vassal forces.

The construction of large-scale Tanchon Power Station will help settle the nation's acute shortage of electricity and speed up the building of a socialist economic power and provide the people with happy material and cultural life as well as wealth impeccable in the distant future, he stressed.

He called for giving full play again to the might and spirit of the army and people closely rallied around the WPK in building the power station with self-reliance and self-development as the great dynamic force.

Resolution speeches were made.

Then, the builders started the project according to the order of Pak Pong Ju for blasting.
