Koreans in Japan Call for Opening Second June 15 Era
Pyongyang, May 22 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Residents Association in Japan and south Korean Youth League, Democratic Women's Society and Students' Council in Japan made public a joint statement on May 18, 37 years after the Kwangju Popular Uprising in south Korea, which called for opening up the second June 15 era. The June 15 era means the era after the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration was adopted in 2000.

The Kwangju Popular Uprising in May 1980 was a fierce struggle for democratization against dictatorship and a historic turning point that revealed the fact that the U.S. was behind the south Korean military dictatorial regime, the statement said, and went on:

The spirit of the Kwangju Popular Uprising was inherited by the democratic resistance in June 1987 and the largest-ever candlelight revolution that ousted and drove to the prison Park Geun Hye who allowed influence peddling in the "state affairs", violated the "Constitutional" order and committed thrice-cursed crimes.

The new regime should urgently mend the deadlocked south-north relations under the inter-Korean declarations such as the June 15 joint declaration.

And it has to promptly abrogate the "Security Law" suppressing the movement for peace and reunification.
