S. Korean Paper Calls for Proper Education of May 18 Popular Resistance
Pyongyang, May 23 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Kyunghyang Daily News on Monday carried an editorial calling for proper education of the May 18 popular resistance.

The editorial said schools in 15 cities and provinces across south Korea decided to hold memorial services for the May 18 movement for democratization, conduct activities for education around May 18 and other colorful events.

They also planned to publish teaching materials about the April 19 revolution, the April 3 incident on Jeju Island, the October popular resistance and other major events of south Korea, the editorial noted, and went on:

In the past the education of the May 18 popular resistance was conducted in some regions, and the preceding conservative regimes slandered, distorted or curtailed the Kwangju uprising.

The Park Geun Hye regime in "state-compiled textbooks" for middle and high schools vaguely depicted the truth or curtailed and distorted the truth about the uprising.

The education of the May 18 popular resistance is necessary for democratization of society.
