Anniversary of Afro-Asian Solidarity Committee of Korea Marked
Pyongyang, May 31 (KCNA) -- An event took place here on Tuesday to mark the 61st founding anniversary of the Afro-Asian Solidarity Committee of Korea.

Present there were the chairperson and members of the Afro-Asian Solidarity Committee of Korea and officials of the Korean Committee for Solidarity with the World People, the National Peace Committee of Korea and other social organizations and citizens.

Congratulatory messages from various social organizations in the country were read out at the event before a report was made.

The report referred to the successes made by the Afro-Asian Solidarity Committee of Korea in the efforts to contribute to the cause of independent reunification of Korea and boost the anti-imperialist solidarity, friendship and unity with peoples of Asia, Africa and Latin America for the past 61 years and set forth its future action program and tasks.

Noting that owing to the U.S. and its vassal forces' war moves and intervention, the extremely acute situation is prevailing on the Korean peninsula and tragic happenings are witnessed in various regions and countries, it stressed the need to further strengthen the international solidarity and cohesion with the anti-imperialist independent forces of the world in the struggle for opposing the imperialists' aggression and war moves against sovereign states and ensuring peace and security of the country and the region and the rest of the world.

Then, the participants watched a video dealing with the Committee's history of 61 years.
