The adoption of the June 15 joint declaration thawed the frozen north-south confrontation which had existed for more than half a century.

In the wake of the adoption of the joint declaration, the inter-Korean relations of distrust and confrontation turned into those of national reconciliation and unity. Diverse dialogues and negotiations were promoted in different fields and national historic events took place to reconnect the broken vein and stratum of the nation.

Although there were turns and twists, the north and the south openheartedly exchanged opinions through dialogues and negotiations to solve difficult problems and the south Korean people dreamed of the day of national reunification with pleasure. Many business groups of south Korea received benefits from the boosting of the economic cooperation between the north and the south.

However, those eye-opening successes in the June 15 era and south Koreans' expectation and hope were mercilessly trampled down after the puppet conservative group, obsessed with north-south confrontation, took power.

The present south Korean authorities are at the crossroads. They are to follow in such footsteps of "security" uneasiness, diplomatic crisis and economic collapse or to overcome the crisis by improving the north-south relations.

The only way for south Korea to tide over the present worst crisis and difficulties is to improve the north-south relations.

The DPRK will as ever make positive efforts to pool the strength of our nation and achieve a great turn and changes in the north-south relations along the road indicated by the historic July 4 joint statement, June 15 joint declaration and October 4 declaration.
