Independence Is Fundamental Stand to Be Preserved in Solving Issue of Inter-Korean Relations: Rodong Sinmun
Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- The improvement of the north-south relations is an important prerequisite to ensuring peace on the Korean peninsula and achieving the independent reunification of the Korean nation, says Rodong Sinmun Sunday in an article.

It goes on:

The north-south relations are now at the crucial crossroads -- whether to enter the orbit of improvement or to repeat the evil cycle of confrontation.

If we remain an onlooker to the present north-south relations which are under a catastrophic phase, no politician can claim to have fulfilled his or her responsibility and role before the nation nor can win support by the people.

To turn a deaf ear to disgrace and misfortune suffered by the nation and misspend time, being obsessed with factional interests and distrust in compatriots, will be tantamount to mocking the nation's desire for the reunification, a crime to be cursed by the generations to come.

The north-south relations should be healed at an early date and the road to national reconciliation and unity, peace and reunification be opened.

What is most important in overhauling the relations is to adhere to the independent stand, prioritize the nation and rely on the nation's efforts.

The south Korean authorities should make a decision of breaking with the anachronistic and treacherous policy of dependence on outside forces and opt for solving the issue of the north-south relations independently by the Korean nation itself.

It is the consistent stand and unwavering will of the DPRK to reject outsiders and settle the issue of the inter-Korean relations and the country's reunification independently by pooling efforts of Koreans on the principle of national independence and unity.

If the north and the south hold hands from the independent stand, anti-reunification moves of outside forces will be ineffective and a new turning phase will be definitely opened in the inter-Korean relations.
