Anniversary of Kim Il Sung's First Rice-Transplantation after Country's Liberation Observed

Pyongyang, June 7 (KCNA) -- A meeting was held at the Mirim Revolutionary Site Wednesday to mark the 70th anniversary of President Kim Il Sung's first rice-transplantation in the liberated country. On June 7, Juche 36 (1947), the President came to the then Pyongyang Agricultural Experiments Station in Mirim Plain and joined peasants in rice-transplanting. He taught about farming and scientific and research work such as issues of managing the land that the peasants received, expanding area of irrigation in order to cultivate more land, developing stockbreeding so as to make peasants' living more affluent at an early date and widely disseminating advanced farming method and agricultural technique among peasants. After that, he visited the Mirim Plain several times to indicate the orientation and ways for developing the agricultural science and founded a scientific research institution and led it to bring about a turn in its work. Leader Kim Jong Il, together with the President and anti-Japanese war heroine Kim Jong Suk, visited this plain for several times and did farm work. And he gave tasks to study rice seedlings best suited to the conditions of the country by establishing the Juche-oriented stand in the scientific and research work and made efforts to the development of agriculture. Present at the meeting were Kwak Pom Gi, vice-chairman of the C.C., Workers' Party of Korea, Kye Yong Sam, director of the Institute of Agricultural Science, officials concerned and officials and researchers of agricultural scientific and research institutes. At the end of the meeting, the participants looked round the field where the President did the first rice-transplantation. |
