DPRK Delegation Clarifies Principled Stand at 35th Session of UN Human Rights Council

Pyongyang, June 9 (KCNA) -- A delegation of the DPRK clarified the following principled stand at the 35th Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on Wednesday over the vicious "human rights" racket of the hostile forces against the DPRK: The U.S. and its followers openly seek to bring down the social system of the DPRK under the pretext of non-existent "human rights issue", adopting an anti-DPRK "human rights resolution" every year at the UN Human Rights Council. The anti-DPRK "human rights resolution" and the "special rapporteur" of the UN concerning the human rights performance in the DPRK who appeared according to the "resolution" are just the typical product of the politicization of the human rights issue, and selectivity and double standards being applied in handling it. The DPRK is consistent in its stand of categorically rejecting it. The DPRK is a socialist country centered on the popular masses, where they are the master of everything and everything serves them. The government of the DPRK set it as its state policy to protect and promote the human rights of its people and makes every possible effort for its implementation. It is the true situation of the DPRK that all the people are enjoying the genuine human rights to the full. This being a hard fact, some countries are calling for cooperation with the above-said UN "special rapporteur". This interference in the internal affairs of the DPRK can never be justified. The DPRK is practically doing its best in the field of human rights and calls for cooperation and dialogue for protecting and promoting the genuine human rights. It acceded to the convention on the rights of the child, the convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women and other major international human rights conventions. Specifically, it signed the convention on the rights of persons with disabilities in November last year. The DPRK submitted to the UN its reports on the implementation of the above-said conventions in the first half of the last year. It is proactively conducting the preparatory work for having them checked in September and November this year. In May it invited the special rapporteur concerning the rights of the disabled to Pyongyang as part of its efforts for implementing the convention on the rights of persons with disabilities, candidly and deeply discussed the issues for implementing the convention with her and reached an agreement to further strengthen the cooperative ties. The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights also positively appreciated her visit. The DPRK rejects any "human rights argument" and "cooperation" extremely politicized on the basis of "testimonies" made by the criminals and human scum like "defectors from the north." But it is its stand to positively respond to any dialogue and cooperation for promoting the genuine human rights. If the UN Human Rights Council is to fulfill the duty and mission peculiar to it, it should take issue with the poor human rights situation of the world's worst human rights abusers like the U.S. and other Western countries, the hideous past crimes of Japan, the unheard-of group abduction of DPRK women citizens by south Korea and other institutional human rights abuses, and take steps for tackling them. The DPRK will never pardon the "human rights" racket of the hostile forces over its non-existent "human rights issue" but toughly counter it to the end. |
