Papers Slam S. Korean Authorities for Mocking Public Mind-set Calling for Improved Inter-Korean Relations

Pyongyang, June 18 (KCNA) -- The south Korean authorities built up ill opinion that a joint event of Koreans in the north, the south and abroad was not held due to the DPRK though it was planned to be held on the occasion of the 17th anniversary of the June 15 joint declaration, say papers here in their commentaries on Sunday. Rodong Sinmun in a commentary says this is a mockery of public mindset calling for improving the inter-Korean relations and achieving national reunification as they tried to pass the blame on to the other by misrepresenting the fact. The failure of the joint event is attributable to the south Korean authorities' indecisive and equivocal attitude. It is painful that the June 15 joint national event was not held though it would be significant in doing away with the catastrophic consequences of the inter-Korean relations caused by the conservative group's heinous policy of confrontation with compatriots in the north, and in opening up a broad avenue to independent reunification by pooling efforts of all Koreans. The south Korean authorities' indecisive and ambiguous attitude leaves the DPRK skeptical as to their willingness to improve the inter-Korean relations. If the south Korean authorities have intention to respect and implement the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, they should drop the attitude of cooperating with outside forces and following their anti-reunification moves, to begin with. Minju Joson says the south Korean authorities should not mock the entire nation and the people from all walks of life desirous of improved inter-Korean relations and peace and reunification on the Korean peninsula but show their will to implement the north-south declarations in practice. |
