Cooperation and Exchange between KFPD and WFD Intensified
Pyongyang, June 29 (KCNA) -- Cooperation and exchange between the Central Committee of the Korean Federation for the Protection of the Disabled (KFPD) and the World Federation of Deaf (WFD) have been intensified after the two federations signed a MOU and adopted a four-year action plan in 2012.

Amid evermore intensified activities to train disabled persons for diverse occupations, equipment at the Wood-processing Workshop for Deaf were upgraded and assistance was rendered to the Deaf Association of Korea (DAK) in editing and publishing its sign language book.

Aid equipment were successfully delivered for the project to build up a Braille information network, centered on the Blind Association of Korea, between three blind schools (Pongchon Blind School in South Hwanghae Province, Hamhung Blind School in South Hamgyong Province and Taedong Blind School in South Phyongan Province) and the Kwangmyong Publishing House.

And Kaeson Nursery in Moranbong District, Pyongyang was spruced up to run a class for early sign language education and train sign language interpreters on a regular basis.

The WFD has given a sincere helping hand to the DAK in developing light signal electronic goods for the deaf.

A DAK delegation visited the WFD general secretariat in 2014 to share experience and a delegation of the WFD visited the DPRK in 2016 to agree on strengthening the mutual cooperation.

When interviewed by KCNA, Ri Chol, chairman of the Sign Language Interpreters Association of Korea, hoped for more active cooperation and exchange between the World Federation of Deaf and the Deaf Association of Korea, between the World Blind Union and the Blind Association of Korea and between the World Association of Sign Language Interpreters and the Sign Language Interpreters Association of Korea.
