U.S. Imperialists' Vandalism and Plunder of Cultural Heritages during Korean War
Pyongyang, July 1 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialists indiscriminately vandalized and plundered cultural heritages of national value in Korea during the past Korean War.

They reduced temples, tombs, pavilions, castle gates and others to ruins by barbaric air raids in disregard of international laws and regulations.

Most of temples including Pohyon Temple in Mt Myohyang, Jangan and Singge Tempels in Mt Kumgang were destroyed by their air raids and lots of relics were reduced to ashes.

Yujom Temple, the biggest of four large temples in Mt Kumgang, was leveled to ground. 50 magnificent and luxurious buildings of Sokwang Temple of Kosan were savagely destroyed by saturation air raids.

Lots of relics at temple buildings including the gilded Buddha in the Yongmyong Temple on Moran Hill and Buddha in Songbul Temple of Mt Jongbang were robbed by the invaders.

Three tombs of Kangso, treasure of Korea, were dug up and used as a storehouse. Old tombs in Ryonggang County were used as prisons. Hand grenades were thrown at a tomb in Anak, Hwanghae Province and bombs dropped there.

Pubyok Pavilion of Pyongyang and many other historical relics and sites were completely destroyed.

The U.S. imperialist aggressors destroyed six history museums in Pyongyang, Wonsan, Humhung, Haeju and other areas and looted tens of thousands of cultural heritages including at least 6,700 valuable historical relics at the museums and burned historical data.

Over 1,200 relics from the museum of the Kyongbok Palace in Seoul and at least 6,000 relics and exhibits from the museum of the Toksu Palace were vandalized or looted.

The U.S. imperialists should unconditionally return all cultural heritages looted in Korea during the war and honestly admit the crimes and make apology and reparation for them.
