According to an official concerned, with the improvement of 150 km-long waterway, it came to be possible to supply water to over 20 reservoirs and Lake Thaesong.

The waterway is a gravity-fed irrigation system which irrigates croplands in South Phyongan Province and Pyongyang and Nampho cities and supplies water to industrial establishments in those regions.
