ession of UN Committee on Relations with Host Country Blames U.S. Extortion of DPRK's Diplomatic Package
Pyongyang, July 15 (KCNA) -- A session of the UN Committee on Relations with Host Country was held at the UN headquarters on July 13 at the request of the permanent mission of the DPRK at the UN.

Discussed at the session was the case of extortion of an official diplomatic package of the DPRK mission by the U.S.

The councilor of the DPRK mission explained the circumstances of the extortion of the diplomatic package by the U.S., denouncing it as an intolerable encroachment upon the sovereignty of the DPRK and a hideous provocation in breach of international law.

Stressing that diplomatic packages are entitled to inviolability and protection under the Article 27 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, he continued:

The U.S. State Department allegedly expressed an official apology right after the occurrence of the case, but it has so far delayed the return of the package under this or that pretext.

The U.S. gangster-like act of provocation proves to what extent the U.S. policy of hostility toward the DPRK has reached. It also fully reveals the arrogance and the shamelessness of the U.S. going reckless in utter disregard of international law.

He emphasized that the Committee is obliged to hold the U.S. authorities liable for the recent incident of grave severity and consequences, and urged the U.S. to return the package immediately and unconditionally. He also called for practical steps so that there would not be any more violation of sovereignty of the UN member nations.

The Cyprian mission at the U.N., chair of the Committee, and many other missions represented at the session including those from China, Russia, Cuba, Iran and Syria, denounced the U.S. extortion of the DPRK's diplomatic package as a serious and never-to-be-condoned act.

They urged the U.S. to make an official apology for encroaching upon the sovereignty of the DPRK and return the package immediately as demanded by the DPRK side. And they stressed that the U.S. should respect the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, ensure the personal safety of all the delegations visiting the U.S. to take part in the UN conferences and respect the inviolable right of diplomatic packages.
