U.S. Is Arch Criminal Escalating Nuclear Arms Race: Rodong Sinmun

Pyongyang, July 19 (KCNA) -- The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute recently made public a fact-finding report on the world's nuclear arsenals. According to it, the U.S. is mulling spending 400 billion dollars to maintain and update nuclear weapons for ten years from 2017 and trillion dollars to modernize nuclear weapons for 30 years, says Rodong Sinmun Wednesday in a commentary.

This suggests that the U.S. imperialists' desperate nuclear arms race has reached a very dangerous phase to hold the unchallenged nuclear edge over potential rivals as blatant challenge to global peace and security.

The U.S. scenario for aggression and domination of its nuclear policy remains unchanged as it regards nuclear weapons as all-round means necessary to violate the sovereignty of different countries.

The U.S. is the arch criminal escalating the arms race and increasing the danger of a nuclear war.

The only way to defuse the danger of a nuclear war and preserve peace on the Korean peninsula is for the DPRK to bolster up nuclear deterrent for self-defense at the rapid speed.

The DPRK will steadily bolster up its nuclear deterrent both in quality and quantity in order to fundamentally put an end to the danger of a nuclear war increased by the U.S. and preserve peace in the region and other parts of the world.
