KCNA Commentary on Germany's Double-faced Behavior on Security Issue

Pyongyang, July 21 (KCNA) -- Recently the Bundestag of Germany examined the issue of possessing nuclear deterrence common to Europe and came to conclusion that it was possible from a legal point of view, according to reports. The Polish online magazine W Prost quoted a U.S. media report on July 6, saying that the Bundestag of Germany examined the issue of European countries of jointly possessing nuclear deterrence by the way of hiring out the nukes of France or UK, nuclear weapons states in Europe, and concluded that it is lawful and practically possible when adopting a relevant law. If this is true, Germany recognizes, though belatedly, that security of Europe should be protected by Europe itself and the fullest guarantee for security is to possess nuclear deterrence. European countries, most of them being member nations of NATO, largely depend on the U.S. in defence and security fields. These days conflict between EU and the U.S. is aggravating after the Trump administration demanded increased expense for defence of NATO members and EU security policy is changing. The European Commission president said in a lecture on June 9 that defense of Europe should not depend on others, expressing the intention to strengthen its own capabilities for defense. The European Commission announced on June 7 that it launched a European Defense Fund. EU member nations decided to jointly import transport planes, submarines and combat and technical equipment and agreed to form a smaller air transport unit and they are busy with the moves to boost their own military capabilities. The Bundestag of Germany's measure of examining the bill shows the strategic calculation to achieve the fullest security guarantee with nuclear deterrence of Europe, not "nuclear umbrella" of the U.S., for fear of the U.S. uncertain commitment to defense of Europe. In fact, media and former and incumbent high ranking politicians of Germany discuss on the nuclear deterrence and this is the unprecedented act showing its big interests and concerns about the security. What matters is that Germany, which is greatly interested in its own security, often slanders the DPRK, turning blind eyes to the inevitability of its access to nukes and bolstering up its nuclear force. The DPRK's access to nukes and bolstered nuclear force is to defend sovereignty and vital rights of the country and regional peace and security from the evermore escalating nuclear threats of the U.S. which have lasted for several decades. This is very clear to everyone. Nevertheless, politicians of Germany fault the nuclear deterrence of the DPRK whenever a chance is given to them. It is the wicked and black-hearted idea that they have nothing to do with other's security issue. If Germany is interested in the global peace and security, it should not fault other's nuclear deterrence but urge the U.S. to give up its hostile policy and nuclear threats to the DPRK. |
