Model Company Movement Waged during War

Pyongyang, July 25 (KCNA) -- Soldiers of the Korean People's Army (KPA) displayed the indomitable spirit of defending the country and popular heroism during the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953) to defeat the U.S. imperialists. In order to convey their great feats to posterity, the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum was built on the bank of the River Pothong in Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK. What draws attention of visitors there is a data that myriads of model soldiers were produced in KPA units for a year since March 1952 and they performed great feats. During the war, the model company movement was brisk among KPA units as part of a mass movement for strengthening the company, the main combat unit. The movement had brought about a great surge in the combat capability of companies and spiritual strength of their soldiers. The flag for the first model company went to the second company of the first battalion of 30th regiment under the Andong 12th Infantry Division of the KPA for killing or wounding thousands of enemies in less than two years since the start of the war and producing three heroes including Kang Ho Yong. Many tales of heroism shown by KPA soldiers were highlighted by newspaper "Joson Inmingun", the KPA Front Command's organ "For Victory" and other mass media. Among them are the one about an artillery officer who commanded the battle on the coast of Wonsan to sink two destroyers and several warships and thus foil the enemy's landing operation and another about those who took the lead in assaults and sacrificed themselves for the Party and the leader, the fatherland and the people. As the heroic Korean People's Army, indeed, reliably defended the fatherland, the U.S. imperialists were forced to kneel down before the Korean people. |
