Participants in Solidarity Meeting with Korean People Send Letter to UN Secretary General
Pyongyang, August 16 (KCNA) -- The participants in the solidarity meeting with the Korean people held here sent a letter to the UN secretary general Wednesday in the joint name of the International Preparatory Committee of the Gathering 2017-Praise to the Great Persons of Mt Paektu and the Korean Committee for Solidarity with the World People.

The letter said that the situation on the Korean peninsula is growing tense day by day and arouses serious concern of the international community despite the desire of humankind for global peace, security and common prosperity.

The main cause that failed to defuse the tension on the peninsula is that outside forces are persisting to seek their interests against the DPRK, it noted, adding: The U.S. is pursuing the anachronistic hostile policy toward the DPRK, evading the peace-loving proposals of the DPRK.

The U.S. and its vassal forces persistently use the name of the UN in the moves to attain their vicious purpose of isolating and stifling the DPRK and the UN supports the U.S. hostile policy toward the DPRK, far from considering respect and impartiality for sovereign states as its life and soul, it pointed out

It said that the DPRK's nuclear test, satellite launch and ballistic missile launch are the just right of sovereign state for self-defense and there is no article stipulating that this "threatens global peace and security" in the UN Charter and UN general assembly resolutions.

It noted that "sanction resolutions" of the UN Security Council against the DPRK are the illegal documents fabricated by particular politically-motivated purposes.

The letter strongly urged the UN secretary general and the UN Office to drop sanctions against the DPRK in conformity with the mission of the UN seeking to global peace and security and development common to mankind.
