20th World Taekwon-Do Championships Opens
Pyongyang, September 17 (KCNA) -- The 20th World Taekwon-Do Championships opened with due ceremony on Sunday here.

Participating in the championships were players and delegations from 69 countries and regions of the world.

Citizens in Pyongyang and sportspersons warmly welcomed the participants along the route.

Present at the opening ceremony were Pak Pong Ju, Choe Ryong Hae, Kim Kyong Ho, chairman of the Korean Taekwon-Do Committee who is chairman of the organizational committee of the championships, officials concerned and working people in Pyongyang.

Attending it were Ri Yong Son, president of the International Taekwon-Do Federation and chairman of the International Martial Arts Games Committee, executive members of the ITF, representatives from national associations under the ITF and diplomatic envoys of different countries and members of international bodies here and other foreign guests.

Taekwon-Do teams of the DPRK, Russia, Mongolia, England and other countries and referees entered the venue of the opening ceremony.

Kim Kyong Ho in his opening address expressed thanks to the participants for their positive support before congratulatory speeches.

Pak Pong Ju hoped that the participants would promote concord and unity and enjoy pleasant and happy days during the championships.

Ri Yong Son expressed belief that the participants would display their high techniques and noble mental and moral traits and fully show the advantages and power of the orthodox Taekwon-Do.

The Taekwon-Do players made a pledge and a performance was given in congratulation of the championships.
