Koreans in Japan Launch Actions to Defend National Education
Pyongyang, October 2 (KCNA) -- The "Let us defend our school! University students' action" started under the sponsorship of the Union of Korean Students in Japan with due rally in Tokyo on Sept. 24.

Present at the rally were Kim Hyon Il, chairman of the Central Standing Committee of the Union of Korean Students in Japan, officials and members of the union, compatriots and Japanese students and personages.

Prior to the rally a video on the April 24 struggle for education of Koreans in Japan against the Japanese authorities' moves to obliterate national education in 1948 was screened.

Then followed speeches.

Speakers disclosed the essence of the Japanese authorities' discrimination against Korean schools and denounced its injustice.

They declared they would intensify information and legal activities through internet and other means and vigorously push ahead with the action to defend national education as those participants in the April 24 struggle for education did.

Japanese personages denounced the Tokyo District Court for its recent decision dismissing the demand of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan and Koreans in Japan for application of tuition-free program for senior high schools to Korean schools, declaring their will to wage active struggle of solidarity to protect the Korean students' right to learning in the future.

Representatives of all headquarters of the union expressed their resolve to struggle until the problem aiding Korean schools is settled.

Through the action to be held till Dec. 15, the Union of Korean Students in Japan is going to widely inform Japanese society of the justice of national education and injustice of discrimination against Korean schools, build public opinion against the discrimination and launch the struggle for application of the tuition free program to Korean schools and resumption of payment of subsidies to them and protest against the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan in different parts of Japan.
