S. Korea-U.S. "Mutual Defense Treaty" Must Be Scrapped: Rodong Sinmun

Pyongyang, October 2 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Monday carries an article on the lapse of 64 years since the U.S. prodded the south Korean puppet regime into signing the "mutual defense treaty." The U.S., seized with the invariable wild ambition for dominating the Korean peninsula and the rest of the Northeast Asian region, cooked up the offending treaty in league with the puppet regime under the pretext of tackling the "threat of southward invasion" on Oct. 1, 1953 right after it was defeated in the Korean war, the article notes, and goes on: The U.S. has justified its forces' presence in south Korea under the pretext of that treaty, turned south Korea into an advanced base for a nuclear war against the DPRK, disturbed the Korean nation's reconciliation, unity and reunification and inflicted untold misfortune and pain upon south Koreans. The "treaty" was a product of the U.S. belligerent scenario to provoke a new war on the Korean peninsula and a criminal one to justify the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces' presence in south Korea, undermine the unity of the Korean nation and disturb the improvement of the north-south ties and independent reunification, wantonly violating the dignity and rights of the south Korean people. The impact of the "treaty" on the efforts of the Korean nation for carving out its destiny independently is so negative that it has no reason to exist. It is an urgent requirement of the situation to scrap the "treaty." All Koreans in the north, the south and abroad should wage a fiercer nation-wide struggle to get the "treaty" scrapped at once and the U.S. imperialist aggressor troops withdrawn from south Korea and to accomplish the cause of nation reunification. |
