Head of DPRK Delegation on Peaceful Environment for Development of Science and Technology
Pyongyang, October 6 (KCNA) -- The 57th session of the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization was opened in Geneva, Switzerland on October 2.

The head of the DPRK delegation made a speech at the session on October 3.

He said that all activities of the organization should be directed to making the work to protect the intellectual property to practically contribute to meeting global challenges by dint of science and technology.

He went on:

The DPRK has achieved lots of inventions and new technology successes in various fields of the national economy over the past years, which contributed to the production of technical means including hi-tech equipment in reliance upon its own efforts, technology and resources and to the economic development and the improvement of the people's standard of living.

To develop the science and technology which promote the economic development of the country, it is needed to provide peaceful environment.

It is the present reality that state sovereignty as well as the right of people to existence and economic development including science and technology are gravely threatened by some specific states' high-handed policies to check the independent aspiration of developing countries by force.

As a typical example, the hostile forces are enforcing unprecedented unethical sanctions to smother the DPRK's socialist system and field of people's living.

The DPRK's economic development as a whole is put under the toughest sanctions as it has taken self-defensive measures for the protection of the sovereignty of the country and its right to existence.

But the reality shows that the tougher the hostile forces impose sanctions, the stronger the will and mental power of the Korean people to defend the Korean socialist system are growing.

He clarified the stand of the DPRK government to further develop the work for protecting intellectual property of the country and continue to develop the cooperative relations with the World Intellectual Property Organization and its member states.
