The Switzerland-Korea Committee and the Swiss Group for the Study of the Juche Idea said this in a joint statement on Sep. 30 to mark the 20th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's election as general secretary of the WPK.

The statement said:

On Oct. 8, 1997, 20 years ago leader Kim Jong Il was elected as general secretary of the WPK. This is an expression of boundless trust of the entire army and all the people of the DPRK in him.

He formulated the Songun politics based on the Juche idea as the main political mode under socialism and had applied it in every aspect.

Thanks to his Songun leadership, the DPRK had turned into a satellite manufacturing and launching state and a nuclear weapons state of which the U.S. imperialists and their followers are afraid.

He strengthened the DPRK into an invincible fortress by constantly adhering to the banner of independence, Songun and socialism.

The era of Kim Jong Il, the great era of glory, is now being creditably carried forward under the leadership of respected Marshal Kim Jong Un.
