Landscapes of Koguryo, Cultural Heritage of Korean Nation
Pyongyang, November 20 (KCNA) -- The cultural heritages of the Korean nation well-known over the world include landscapes created in the period of Koguryo (B.C. 277-A.D. 668).

As they give a clear glimpse of the pictorial development in the period of Koguryo, they come to be a precious national treasure which contributed to the cultural development of the world.

Typical of them is tomb murals in Phyongjong-ri, Anak County of South Hwanghae Province, which is believed to be made in the 4th century.

Seen on the eastern wall of the chamber is the perspective representation of scenery of Mt Wolam surrounding the tomb area and on its western wall peaks of Mt Kuwol laying range after range.

The 5th century had witnessed further development of landscape painting in Koguryo as shown by mural paintings in Jangchon Tomb No. 1 and the contents of landscapes got diversified in the 6th-7th century.

In particular, a pine tree drawn on the northern wall of Jinpha-ri Tomb No. 1 has been appraised as the peculiar and admirable painting.

Now, tomb murals of Koguryo have been well preserved, adding glory to the superiority of the Korean nation, thanks to the culture conservation policy of the Workers' Party of Korea.
