Workshop Held to Mark World Toilet Day

Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- A workshop was held at the Grand People's Study House on Wednesday to mark World Toilet Day. Present there were officials from the Ministry of Urban Management, the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Grand People's Study House and relevant units, the UN resident coordinator and UNDP resident representative, members of missions of the UNICEF, WHO, the European Union Programme Support, the Cooperation Office of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in the DPRK, and members of delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies working here. Speakers noted that sewage, neither purified nor recycled, spread various diseases worldwide, thus affecting people's health. They underscored the need to purify sewage without fail as it is an important work to protect natural environment and provide people with more hygienic and cultured living conditions. Then followed speeches on such subjects as "History of World Toilet Day". The participants watched a scientific film dealing with the transformation of sanitary facilities in the countryside and enjoyed an art performance given by children. |
