Kosong Bamboo Thicket, Natural Monument of DPRK
Pyongyang, November 27 (KCNA) -- The DPRK has many natural monuments to be handed down to posterity.

Among them is the bamboo thicket, which covers some areas of Samilpho-ri and Sunhak-ri, Kosong County, Kangwon Province.

Warm and rainy climatic conditions of Kosong County are favorable for the cultivation of bamboo.

After acquainting himself with the natural and geographical conditions of the county on a scientific basis, President Kim Il Sung sent 56 bamboo saplings to the local people in March Juche 48 (1959).

Those saplings were planted in Sunhak-ri and Samilpho-ri.

More than 1,600 bamboo shoots have been sprouted every year in the thicket.

True to the instruction of the President to acclimatize and mass-cultivate bamboo, Kosong County has created a bamboo thicket covering over 300 hectares.

The county came to be a producer of various bamboo goods like floral basket, fan and angling rod.
