The results showed that pollution by benzene inside the base is 672 times, toluene 7.6 times and ethyl-benzene 6.5 times the tolerance limits and outside the base benzene is 470 times, toluene 2.7 times and ethyl-benzene 4.9 times.

Enraged at the results, the Inhabitants Association for Properly Retaking U.S. Military Base in Ryongsan held a press conference in Seoul on Dec. 1, demanding the full-scale investigation into the Ryongsan base and its immediate de-pollution.

Speakers contended that the U.S. forces in south Korea should take responsibility for the environmental pollution and immediately start its de-pollution.
