S. Korean Teachers Urge Regime to Lift Repressive Steps against Their Union
Pyongyang, December 8 (KCNA) -- The Teachers Union of south Korea, which launched a hunger strike urging the regime to lift the repressive step against it and scrap ill-advised education policy, held a press conference outside Chongwadae on Wednesday, according to the south Korean newspaper Nodong and Segye.

Recalling that the former regime took repressive steps of axing the teachers who turned out in the struggle for democracy and outlawing their union, speakers there urged the present regime to restore the legal status of the union.

At the end of the conference the union thrust its written opinion into Chongwadae.

The union's hunger strike is reportedly spilling over into various parts of south Korea, joined by school teachers and various organizations.
