Kong Sam Ol, deputy prime minister in charge of the Royal Palace, was elected chairman of the committee at the instruction of King Norodom Sihamoni.

The committee set a remembrance period from December 1 to 20 and decided to give wide publicity to Kim Jong Il's revolutionary career and exploits through media and organize political and cultural events in the period.
