The present atmosphere for improving the inter-Korean relations created thanks to our pro-active proposal and efforts is a revelation of our sincere will to make a breakthrough in improving the north-south relations and achieving independent reunification of the country regardless of the past as befitting the status of the Korean nation as the world nuclear power.

Priceless is the atmosphere of national reconciliation, unity and reunification prevailing on the Korean Peninsula which had been in danger of a nuclear war.

It is very urgent to keep the atmosphere of national reconciliation mounting at present.

To respect and trust each other is the starting point and precondition for reconciliation and unity between the north and the south.

National reunification is the long-cherished desire of the nation and all Koreans should not have different intention for the great cause of reunification.

Differences in ideology and system of the north and the south cannot be a reason for distrust and confrontation among the fellow countrymen and isms and interests of classes and social strata cannot be hurdles for national unity.

The door of dialogue, contacts and visits is opened to everyone who is sincerely hoping for national reconciliation and unity.

When the north and the south promote bilateral contact, travel, cooperation and exchange on a broad scale in the spirit of companion and driving force of reunification, better and more favorable conditions and circumstances will be provided.

Recalling the past history, whenever good atmosphere prevailed between the north and the south, anti-reunification forces at home and abroad made more desperate efforts to divide and sow discord among Koreans.

Unless we put an end to the acts that might offend the other party and incite discord and hostility, the hard-won precious opportunity will be missed and the clock for reunification will turn back.

All the Koreans in the north and the south and abroad, irrespective of their residence, should pool their patriotic minds for national reunification and further promote national reconciliation and unity as members of the Korean nation.
