Pyongyang, January 23 (KCNA) -- It has been 50 years since the U.S. imperialist armed spy ship Pueblo was detained by the DPRK. The ship is floating on the Pothong River in Pyongyang where the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum is located. DPRK Hero and naval officer Pak In Ho who displayed bravery as the head of a searching party when capturing the spy ship, has worked as a lecturer at the museum for nearly 20 years. When interviewed by KCNA, 79 year-old Pak said with pride that he used to say to the visitors that Pueblo is a U.S. armed spy ship captured by the Korean People's Army (KPA) and it is only the KPA Navy that exhibited the U.S. imperialist naval vessel as a trophy in the world. The U.S. armed spy ship Pueblo illegally intruded into the territorial waters of the DPRK and committed military spying, but it was captured by the self-defense measures of the KPA Navy on January 23, 1968. The KPA seamen contained the spy ship just within 14 minutes and captured 80-odd U.S. scoundrels. At that time, the U.S. drove the situation of the Korean Peninsula to the brink of war by dispatching its nuclear aircraft carrier Enterprise and mobile strike forces to the East Sea of Korea while threatening to use nuclear weapons unless the DPRK would send back the spy ship. However the DPRK declared its stand that it would react to the U.S. "retaliation" with retaliation and to an all-out war with an all-out war. The DPRK's toughest stance forced the U.S. to sign a letter of apology that the government gives firm assurance that no U.S. ship will intrude into the territorial waters of the DPRK again in the future. Going round the spy ship, a foreigner said that the U.S. imperialist Yankees trumpet often that the "Statue of Liberty" and the "first" military strength are the symbol of the United States of America, but it is a wrong opinion, the symbol of the U.S. is Pueblo bound as POW. Kim Wi Hyok, a student of Pyongyang Music School No. 1 of Kim Won Gyun Conservatory, said that he felt a pleasant sensation of a victor looking at the photos of the captain and crewmen of Pueblo lifting their hands and writing confession. Kim Kwang Hyok, a naval officer of the KPA, said that the Pueblo incident is clear evidence showing the crushing defeat of the U.S. in the showdown with the DPRK, adding that he will mercilessly destroy those who infringe upon the sovereignty of the DPRK even an inch, staking the honor of Korea of Juche. |
