Technology of Mass-producing Phytase Established in DPRK
Pyongyang, February 1 (KCNA) -- Scientists of the Institute of Advanced Science of Kim Il Sung University established a technology of mass-producing phytase in biotechnological way.

Phytase is an enzyme which decomposes phytic acid and promotes the digestion and absorption of overall nutrients like phosphorus and mineral matters.

In the process of research into feed addictives for the development of the country's livestock farming, scientists of the institute succeeded in breeding by means of genetic engineering a bacterial strain of phytase which is 300 times stronger than primary bacterium and much stronger than world-recognized recombinant bacterial strain in enzyme activity.

They also succeeded in high-density cell breeding of the bacterial strain and thus established the mass-production technology, of which productivity is two times higher than the world-recognized one.

The newly developed phytase has been introduced into a pig farm and other stockbreeding units, proving highly effective.

According to the result, the weight increment of livestock raised by 104-110 percent when phytase was added to feed at the rate of 0.1 percent.
