Participants in the games will compete in football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, speed skating and other events in Pyongyang, the sports village in the area of Mt Paektu, Sariwon, Kowon and other places.

Present at the ceremony were Choe Hwi, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea who is chairman of the National Sports Guidance Committee, officials concerned and sportspersons and working people.

At the end of the ceremony, there took place a men's basketball match between the April 25 Sports Team and the Amnokgang Sports Team.
