New Natural Monuments Registered
Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- The Kosong pine tree and Jongbangsan Kumsujong spring water were newly registered as natural monuments in the DPRK.

The pine tree, determined to be 166 years old, is on a small hill in Sinbong-ri, Kosong County of Kangwon Province.

It is 13.6 meters in height, 3.48 meters in girth of lower part and 4.3 meters in girth of middle part, while the diameter of its crown is 17.6 meters from east to west and 15.7 meters from south to north.

When looking round the pine tree in July Juche 93 (2004), leader Kim Jong Il called for carefully protecting it, saying that it is rarely big and good to see.

The Kumsujong spring water is welling forth from quartzite and schist strata under Mt Jongbang, one of famous mountains in the DPRK.

Its temperature is always 11 degrees centigrade and it has the property of sub-acid calcium bicarbonate with 61.75mg/L in mineral components and 6.5 pH.

The spring water was discovered in April last year.
