The statement said that President Kim Il Sung set the founding of a regular army as an essential requirement of the building of an independent and sovereign state and founded the KPA, the revolutionary regular armed forces, with his outstanding idea of army building and energetic leadership.

The accomplishment of the cause of building the regular armed forces enabled the Korean army and people to win in the three-year Fatherland Liberation War and build a powerful socialist country independent in politics, self-supporting in the economy and self-reliant in defence, it added.

The statement noted that respected Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un has further strengthened the KPA into the invincible revolutionary ranks by consolidating its politico-military might in every way.

Under his guidance the Korean army and people will defend the country's sovereignty and dignity and surely win in the anti-imperialist and anti-U.S. confrontation struggle, it stressed.
