The May 18 Special Investigation Committee collected and analyzed data of 620 000 pages and carried out survey among 190 military units and 120 military persons, who had been concerned with the case at that time, for five months to find out that Chun Doo Hwan ordered several times from May 21, 1980 to strafe the resistant fighters and citizens from gunships.

Accordingly, more than 40 helicopters mobilized for putting down the uprising strafed Kwangju citizens on May 21 and 27.

Information also proved that bombers and fighters were on standby with live bullets aboard to bomb Kwangju City.

It was confirmed that the crackdown on Kwangju uprisers was directly conducted by Chun and the three services of south Korea were mobilized for it.
