The competition was divided into the panel of the General Bureau of Public Catering Service, foreign service panel, ministries and national institutions panel, Pyongyang City and provincial (municipal) catering service panel. Competitors included more than 300 cooks, waiters and waitresses from more than 60 units.

Administrative officials and talented cooks selected from each organization made designated dishes in a given time and the results of the jury were made public on the spot.

The competitors wonderfully made designated dishes by peculiar processing methods and tactful and skilled cooking.

Drawing particular attention was the competition of waiters and waitresses showing peculiar ways of decorating banquet table, ways of setting national dishes and setting tables for guests and reception.
