March First Popular Uprising Anniversary Marked
Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- Leading newspapers of the DPRK on Thursday dedicate an editorial and articles to the 99th anniversary of the March First Popular Uprising. They say that the army and people of the DPRK will force Japan to pay dearly for its past crimes.

In the early part of the last century the Japanese imperialists occupied Korea and mercilessly violated sovereignty and right to existence of the Korean nation, turning the whole land into sea of blood through the most brutal colonial fascist rule.

The Korean people were more miserable than a dog in the house of death under the medieval military rule by the Japanese imperialists. Their pent-up grudge and wrath erupted as a nationwide anti-Japanese resistance on March 1, 1919.

Rodong Sinmun in an editorial says the March First Popular Uprising, which stroke terror into the Japanese imperialist aggressors, was a nationwide patriotic anti-Japanese resistance as it fully demonstrated the indomitable spirit of the Korean nation not to live as slaves of outsiders though they may die.

Noting that nearly one century has passed since the March First Popular Uprising, the Korean nation has not yet achieved sovereignty across the country, the editorial goes on:

The more the U.S. and its vassal forces tyrannically resort to the anti-DPRK moves to ignite a nuclear war, the further the Korean army and people will bolster the self-defensive war deterrence as they always remember the lesson of the March First Popular Uprising.

Minju Joson in an article says the March First Popular Uprising taught a serious lesson that sovereignty of a nation should be achieved only by its own strength, not by outsiders. When the people of each country value national dignity and sovereignty like their own lives and struggle for them in firm unity, nobody in the world can match the strength, the article stresses.
