Masterpiece "Muakdo (Pictorial Dance and Music)"
Pyongyang, March 14 (KCNA) -- The Ryangchon Temple in Kowon County, South Hamgyong Province of the DPRK is known as not only a historical cultural relic with a long history but also the one keeping precious paintings in their original states.

The temple was built in 753 and rebuilt in the period of the Feudal Joson Dynasty (1392-1910).

Seen on an angled ceiling of its main hall is "Muakdo (Pictorial Dance and Music)" which is appreciated as a masterpiece.

The painting shows 22 men and women dancing while playing national musical instruments.

Every visitor to the temple praises it as the masterpiece representing the ceiling pictures drawn in the period of the Feudal Joson Dynasty, fascinated by the vivid description of cheerful looks of dancers and musicians.

Its painter has been unknown, but its brushwork reminds every viewer of the one applied to the painting "Dance" by Kim Hong Do, famous painter of Korea in the 18th century.

"Muakdo" has been preserved as one of the precious art relics of the Korean nation thanks to the policy of the Workers' Party of Korea on the protection of national heritage.
