Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- An inquiry group of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) on March 12 urged the Japanese government to probe into the truth behind the case of firing at the Chongryon Central Hall committed by the Japanese right-wing reactionaries, prevent recurrence of such case and withdraw discriminative rules against Chongryon and Koreans in Japan. The inquiry group consisting of Nam Sung U, vice-chairman of the Chongryon Central Standing Committee, the department director for Rights and Welfare of Chongryon and representatives of the Central Standing Committee of the Union of Democratic Korean Women in Japan and the Tokyo Metropolitan Headquarters of Chongryon went to the Cabinet Office in Tokyo and met officials of the Cabinet Secretariat, the National Police Agency and the Ministry of Justice. The group handed over a letter of request, adopted at the emergency meeting of Koreans in Japan condemning the Japanese right-wing reactionaries for firing at the Chongryon Central Hall on Feb. 28, to the Japanese government. Nam Sung U said that the reckless shooting case against Chongryon was an unpardonable crime. The Japanese government's persistent sanctions and pressure upon the DPRK and political suppression of Chongryon and Koreans in Japan sparked off the shooting case, he stressed. He urged the Japanese government to withdraw its hostile policy toward the DPRK as early as possible and give up at once the steps of politically suppressing and controlling legitimate and fair activities of Chongryon. Kiyohiko Toyama, member of the House of Representatives and chairman of the International Affairs of the New Komeito Party of Japan, accompanying the inquiry group, contended that the Japanese government should accept the demand of Chongryon and take a responsible measure. |
