New Species of Loach Bred in DPRK
Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- A new species of fleshy and highly nutritive loach, designated as the loach of Pyongyang breed, was recently bred and its farming technology established in the DPRK.

The new species of loach grows quickly, lays much spawn for all seasons and multiplies enormously.

It is also highly adaptable to the environment and has a good appetite. It tastes peculiar, free from smell of mud, and is much higher than other freshwater fishes in nutritive value. And it is possible only 7 or 8 months after from its hatching-out to net it.

The Fish Farming Guidance Bureau under the Ministry of Fisheries settled its food problem in cooperation with teachers and researchers of Kim Hyong Jik University of Education.

According to Kim Yong Chol, an official of the Ministry of Fisheries, the new species of loach is high in biological indicators and can be bred in any fishpond.

Now, it is being carried out at the final stage to build an establishment with the capacity of producing myriads of breed loaches per year, he said.
