Monument to Great Victory in Pukgwan
Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- March 23 is the day that the Monument to the Great Victory in Pukgwan taken back from Japan in March 2006 was replaced in Rimmyong-ri, Kim Chaek City, North Hamgyong Province of the DPRK.

The monument is a monumental stone to the victory built in 1708 to hand down to posterity the feats performed by the Hamgyong provincial volunteer army of Korea in defeating the Japanese aggressors during the Imjin Patriotic War (1592-1598).

By the concerted efforts of the north and the south, the monument came to be returned 100 years after from when it was taken away by the Japanese imperialists.

The monument, replaced in a preservation area covering 20,000-odd square meters, is 249 cm in total height.

Inscribed on the monumental stone, 187 cm high, 66 cm wide and 13 cm thick, are more than 1,400 letters telling about Japan's aggression on Korea, the organization and activities of the Hamgyong provincial volunteer army and its victories battles against the invaders.

Its pedestal was discovered in the preservation area and ascertained with historical evidences when the preparations for its restoration were being made.

The Monument to the Great Victory in Pukgwan was registered as the national treasure of the DPRK No. 193.
