Competitions in dozens of sports events including football, basketball, volleyball, table-tennis and synchronized swimming will be made in Pyongyang, Nampho, Phyongsong and Sariwon cities during the contest.

Its opening ceremony took place at the Basketball Gymnasium in Chongchun Street here on Monday.

Present there were Vice-Premier Jon Kwang Ho, officials concerned, players, coaches and Pyongyangites.

At the end of the ceremony there was a senior men's basketball game (first class) between the April 25 Sports Team and the Amnokgang Sports Team.
