First Pyongyang International Vocal Competition Opens
Pyongyang, April 5 (KCNA) -- The First Pyongyang International Vocal Competition opened with due ceremony at the Moranbong Theatre on Thursday.

Attending it were Pak Chun Nam, minister of Culture who is chairman of the organizing committee of the competition, officials concerned, creators and artistes of national art organizations and teachers and students of art educational bodies, Pyongyangites, foreign artistes, international jury members and honorary guests.

Present there on invitation were foreign diplomats and representatives of international bodies and officials of foreign embassies here.

Pak Chun Nam said in his opening address that the competition would contribute to further raising the level of artistic representation of Korean and world famous songs and developing international cultural and art exchange and cooperation.

Mario Antonio Diaz Varas, professor of Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria who is international jury member, in his congratulatory speech expressed belief that the competition would become a good opportunity of boosting art exchange and cooperation among countries and deeply impressing Korean people and world music lovers.

Then the international jury members were introduced and the order of singers for the competition was read out there.

The participants enjoyed a concert given by the National Symphony Orchestra to congratulate the opening of the competition.
