Anniversary of Popular Uprising on Jeju Island Observed in Britain

Pyongyang, April 8 (KCNA) -- The British Association for the Study of Songun Policy, British Group for the Study of the Juche Idea, Korean Friendship Association UK and the British Solidarity Committee for Peace and Reunification of the Korean Peninsula issued a joint statement on March 28 with the approach of the 70th anniversary of the April 3 Popular Uprising on Jeju Island.

The statement said:

The Popular Uprising on Jeju Island in April 1948 was recorded as a shining page in the history of the south Korean people's anti-U.S., anti-fascist struggle.

The uprisers fought to oppose the U.S. imperialists' colonial enslavement policy and moves for dividing the Korean nation and realize the country's reunification.

The uprising showed what the true nature of "liberty" and "democracy" touted by the U.S. imperialists is.

It also left a bitter lesson that the U.S. imperialists are, indeed, murderers with whom a human being can no longer live together and it is necessary to fight it out against them.

The U.S. imperialists should make a due apology for having mercilessly killed the uprisers and pull their troops out of south Korea without delay.

The soul of the uprisers is still alive.
